Did you know that more than 3 out of every 4 people have NEVER gone on a cruise?  Some people think of a cruise as a vacation where you sit around the pool, eat, and maybe visit an island or two.  Most people don't consider the benefits of cruising when they travel anywhere else in the world, and don't realize that a cruise is much more than lounging by the pool and overeating.  Here are a few of the benefits of traveling on a cruise ship you may not have considered:

  • Cruising can significantly reduce your travel expenses in Europe and other parts of the world where food and lodging is expensive.  In Rome, for example, you're lucky to find a decent lunch for 10 Euros (over 13 US dollars), and a really good meal is quite a bit more expensive, especially for dinner.  On a cruise ship your food is included, and you pay for it in US dollars (or your local currency) when you pay for your cruise.
  • Speaking of food, whenever you cruise anywhere in the world you can rest easy knowing the food you eat on the cruise ship is safe to eat and was prepared in a sanitary manner.  The can also drink water and use ice without worrying about getting sick.  This peace of mind is worth a fortune while traveling in Africa, Asia, parts of South and Central America, and even places in Europe.
  • With a cruise you only pack and unpack once.  You can visit several places without having to pack up your suitcase each time you move - you just take whatever you need for a day's excursion with you off the ship when you're in port
  • Speaking of hauling your stuff around, when you're on a cruise ship you can have the same confidence in the safety of your belongings as you would in a hotel at home.  This also offers peace of mind.
  • People with limited mobility and children can visit places they'd never be able to traveling by land
  • After spending a day in some wonderful place you return to the safety and familiarity of the cruise ship.  There are many places in the world that are great to visit during the day, but are just as great to leave behind you when the day is over.  No matter how exotic the locale, when you come back to the cruise ship you're back on "home turf" - in a secure, clean area you're familiar with and feel safe in.
  • And as long as we're speaking of safety, on a cruise ship you can move around the ship, go to dinner, or enjoy a show at your leisure at any time, day or night.  You don't need to worry about being in by a certain time of night, of avoiding certain areas, or of going somewhere alone, no matter where in the world you are.  Can you say that about a land vacation?
  • Mosquitoes and other insects carry all kinds of diseases, especially in more tropical areas, but you can seriously limit your exposure to insects while on a cruise ship.  Malaria-bearing mosquitoes, for example, generally feed at night, when your cruise ship is back at sea and away from them.  You can lie by the pool all night without bug spray and not have to worry about it.
  • Your language (assuming English is your native language) is spoken on a cruise ship.  This is very reassuring, trust me, in many places in the world, and often it's just nice to come back to a place you can fully communicate with everyone after being around people you can't understand all day.

As you can see, there are many reasons why cruising is a great way to travel!
